Florida Abortion Clinic Surrenders Operational License Amid Investigation

The Hialeah, Fla., clinic, A GYN Diagnostic Center, which provides abortion services, has surrendered its license to the state's Agency for Health Care Administration, rendering the center ineligible to practice medicine in the state, John Travers, the city's licensing administrator, said, the Miami Herald reports. Hialeah authorities revoked the clinic's occupational license Tuesday after Hialeah police last month responded to a report that a woman at 23 weeks' gestation seeking an abortion at the clinic had given birth inside the clinic and that the fetus was found in a biohazard container nine days later. "What led them to surrender their license, we can't answer," Lorena Bravo, a Hialeah assistant city attorney, said. According to the Herald, Hialeah Police Chief Rolando Bolanos on July 29 ordered the clinic's closure while authorities conducted an investigation. It is not yet clear if charges will be filed, according to Mark Overton, Hialeah's deputy police chief (Dellagloria, Miami Herald, 8/10).
